air purifiers delivered to maui

On Friday, September 22, air purifiers were delivered to all 102 homes in the Native Hawaiian homestead called Leiali’i in Lahaina, Maui. This is because of you and your generosity to partner with our Pacific Rim Region to respond to the wildfire devastation. To date, over $70,000 has been given to this effort, an incredible display of generosity by many churches and individuals!
A leader and member of the Leiali’i community provided this message of thanks to the Missionary Church.

An update from maui
August 30, 2023
On Monday, August 21, Pacific Rim Region Director Cal Chinen and Pastor Allen Cardines from Honolulu traveled to Lahaina, Maui on an exploratory trip to assess the needs and opportunities to meet the needs of those affected by the devastating fires.
While there, the team met a resident of a nearby Native Hawaiian homestead called Leiali’i. After spending time building a relationship with him and meeting other residents, including the leader of this community’s neighborhood watch program, it was made known that the greatest need in the community was air purifiers for the homes. While the homes were surrounded by the fires, they were spared much destruction. However, due to the age of the structures that were burned and the total devastation of those structures, the air is contaminated and very dangerous to breathe.
There are 102 homes in the community, and our goal is to provide an air purifier for every one of these homes! At a cost of $630, this will take over $63,000. In addition to that, the residents shared that their other need is solar powered security lights. The power is still not working in these communities, and they are concerned about looting and the safety of their community at night. Any financial support that surpasses what is needed for air purifiers will go toward meeting this need.
God is already using this divine encounter to open up doors for the Gospel to be proclaimed and displayed. While in Maui, Cal and Allen crossed paths with Congresswoman Jill Tokuda and Senator Mazie Hirono. They were able to share with these leaders the vision of why they were there and what we hope to accomplish and were also able to pray with them. Other relationships and connects have quickly formed, leading to what we pray will be a gathering of disciples and a new “ekklesia” in Maui.
Please continue to pray and support this incredible work and unique opportunity! To date, over $41,000 has been given to this relief effort! 40 air purifiers have already been ordered with more discussions happening today with the manufacturer to place an order for the remainder that is needed.

A Day of Prayer and Giving

Our hearts have been broken as the reports of the wildfire devastation and loss of life in Hawaii continue pouring in. My prayer has been Isaiah 61:3 and that from this tragedy our Father will "bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes."
This is an opportunity for the Church to rise up and be the Church. Cal Chinen, Regional Director for our Pacific Rim Region in Hawaii, will be visiting Maui with his team on Monday to assess the needs and opportunities there. Will you join me in two ways before then?
First, will you join me in a day of prayer for Hawaii and our Pacific Rim Region this Sunday? Would your church consider taking time to pray together during your worship gathering locally and across our nation corporately this Sunday morning?
Second, will you join me in giving financially to help our Pacific Rim Region respond to this tragedy with the Gospel? Would your church consider a love offering or donation to help?

Nuestros corazones se han quebrantado a medida que los informes de la devastación de los incendios forestales y la pérdida de vidas en Hawái continúan llegando. Mi oración ha sido Isaías 61:3 y que de esta tragedia nuestro padre ” les otorgue una corona de belleza en lugar de cenizas”.
