MAY 4, 2017 – NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER

It is not too late – you can still call your church to prayer on behalf of the nation during the National Day of Prayer. Even if you can’t call your people together on that day, set aside some time on the Sunday prior (April 30) to pray for the nation. Remind your people of the history behind this important day.President Harry Truman signed into law a national day of prayer in 1952. Ronald Reagan designated the 1st Thursday of May.On May 24, 1774, Thomas Jefferson drafted a Resolution for a Day of Fasting, Humiliation and Prayer to be observed as the British blockaded Boston’s Harbor. They designated June 1, 1774.George Washington wrote in his diary, June 1, 1774: “Went to church, fasted all day.”America was on the verge of a revolution. Is there another kind of revolution emerging today that should call us to a national day of fasting, humiliation and prayer?
